Otakon 2013: More BaltiMore!
Baltimore
(MD, USA) hosted the last Otakon at the Baltimore Convention Center
on August 11-13. It was organized by Otakorp
Inc and 34,892 people attended the event.
With regard to the special guests, some of them were Shingo
Adachi (Megaman Exe animation director), Peter S. Beagle (author of
The lord of the rings: animated version), Maile Flanagan (Naruto
voice actress), Crispin Freeman (Ghost in the shell voice actor) and
Todd Haberkorn (Allen Walker voice from D.
Gray Man)
among many others. Furthermore,
attendees
participated in activities like Hall Costume Contest, an event where
contestants showed their handmade costumes and explained how they
made them. Additionally, another outstanding event was the LARP, a
Live Action Role Playing with the aim of interaction between the
characters within the boundaries of the entire convention center.
Last but not least, we have to stand out the Charity Auction with
anime signed items and the Charity Poster which people could get in
exchange for a donation to help Japan because of the earthquake in
2011. In conclusion, Otakon provides for anime lovers needs plus what
they don't expect.

Anime Expo 2013, anime world epicentre
From July 4-7 took place the 22nd edition of Anime Expo 2013 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in CA, USA. It was organized by the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation and it placed the incredible attendace at 61,000 unique attendees. With reference to the special guests, some of them were voice actors like Eric Vale (Sanji in One Piece), Kyle Hebert (gohan, narrator in Dragon Ball Z), Chistopher Sabat (Alex Louis Armstrong in Full metal alchemist) among others. A part from voice actors also there were guests like Mari Okada (Black Butler writer), Danny Choo (Culture Japan director-presenter) and Pornograffitti (Japanese hard rock band) who made the enthusiastic fans enjoy a great performance. Moreover, attendees had fun with events like Shinjuku Masquerade Ball, Cosplay photoshoots areas, Fashion Show, Anime Music Video Contest, gaming rooms, Masquerade contest (won by Lethal Soul) and many workshops such as Rookie Manga Character Design, Do It Yourself Zombies, Glowsticking, etc. Additionally, anime lovers watched premieres of Ghost in the Shell: ARISE, Kick-Heart!, Garden of Words and Star Blazers 2199. To sum up, we can say Anime Expo has got the perfect formula to atract people to the anime epicentre.

Happy 10th birthday Anime Evolution!
The
Vancouver Anime Convention Society organized the
10th Anime Evolution Con on June 28-30 at
the University of British Columbia in Vanvouver,
Canada. Some of the special guests were Mackenzie
Gray (as Jax-Ur in Man of steel), Sebastiano
Serafini (Tokyo-based model, musician), Jād Saxton (worked for
Funimation Entertainment as an actress and singer) and Dante Basco
(actor, voice actor, poet and dancer). In
particular, a lot of voice actors attended AE 2013 in comparison with
others cons. Several of these voice actors were Scott
McNeil (Dragon Ball Z, InuYasha), Yuri
Lowenthal (Sasuke Uchiha in Naruto), Tara Platt (Temari in Naruto),
Lee Tockar (Gukku in Death Note) and Team Fourstar (Dragon
Ball Z Abridged) among
many others. Furthermore, Synaptic Chaos Theatre (comedy troupe
specialize in live improv) livened up the weekend.
A
part from that, attendees enjoyed a hundred activities like AE 2014
Mascot Contest (winners),
Series Anime competition (Questions about details of your favourite
series), Super Kawaii Swimsuit Queen 2013, Karaoke, How To Pose in
Cosplay, Videogaming and wait for it... 24 hours videorooms played
Cosplay Music Videos as well as series and films like Oreshura,
Deathnote, Infinite stratos, Shakugan no shana, The secret world of
Arriety, Howl's moving castle, etc. Finally, we have to applaud the
charity auction, hopefully all the cons will do the same. Will they
do it?

Desucon 2013: Finland, you rock!
Europe knows how to organize conventions too. From June 14th to 16th took place Desucon 2013, a Finnish convention for fans of Japanese animation and comics at the Sibelius Hall in Lahti, Finland. This is the fifth year of desucon, first organised in June 2009 and ranked among the very best con in Finland. Weather let attendees enjoy the presence of special guests like Seiji Mizushima (Japanese anime director of Fullmetal Alchemist) and Akemi Okamura (voice acting of series like One Piece and Digimon). Moreover, there was the Eurocosplay Qualifier which was won by a Finnish girl (costumed as Amira Halgal) who will represent Finland at the Eurocosplay in London. Also organizing committee surprised people with workshops like Amigurumi (Japanese crocheted toys), speedmeeting, wolf among us (game based on the manga Rabbit Doubt), Fakemon (create your own pokemon), shibari (bondage) and AMV (anime music video) contest among many others. Apart from that, anime lovers delighted a great variety of conferences about Monster Hunter, Death note, Pokemon, Valkyria Chronicles, anime and sports, character design, anime's origin, etc, To conclude we can say attendees are the essence of Desucon because they can take part in all events. Ready for Desucon 2014?

What do we want? ANIMEGACON!
Las
Vegas (NV, USA) hosted an incredible ANIMEGACON 2013 from 14th
to 16th of June. Simply amazing. People enjoyed activities
like Friday night live where bands “Night Club” and “Eyeshine”
livened up the evening. Also there was the famous Masquerade
(Avianna, Carlos de Santiago, Jez Roth, Johnny Zabate as judges), a
competitive event where costumed skits that range from comedy to
dramatic fight scenes are presented to an audience and judges.
Masquerade's winners were Team
Magpie (Brian Polak and Heather Irete) who won a $2502 award.
Moreover, Jennifer Cihi (singing voice of Sailor Moon) sang for the
anime's fans and did an awesome performance. Other activities were
Cosplay lookalike contest (photoshoot by Anna Fischer with Linda Lee
and D-Piddy for winners), Japanese Fashion show, anime vs comic
heroes rave (with DJ Jinrei, DJ Bryan and Jeri Lee as a go-go), EGL
(Elegant, Gothic, Lolita) tea exchange & social, song idol search
(Johnny Yong Bosch, Mark Brooks, Jennifer Cihi as judges),
videogaming tournaments (Street fighter, Tekken, etc) and card games
(Magic, Yugioh). Especial menction for guest Steve Blum (voice of
“Spike Spiegel” from Cowboy Bebop among many others). As a
conclusion, we are proud of this event. What do we want?

Cosplay invaded AnimeNext
From
7th
to 9th
of June took place AnimeNext in Somerset, New Jersey, USA. There were
a lot of special guests like Hiroshi
Shimizu (Princess
Mononoke's key animator), Hiro Usuda (worked for Konami as a
responsible for environmental design for Metal Gear Solid 3 and 4,
Silent Hill 3 and 4) among many other guests. In addition, thousands
of AnimeNext attendees could enjoy of a variety of activities as
screening
rooms of anime, karaoke, manga library, anime music
video editing contest, cosplay burlesque show, live action role play,
game shows and videogaming.
In conclusion, all the things you need to be happy. Finally, we
